We mourn the passing of Chambliss

Today we learned that our friend, Chambliss Neil, died in the wee hours of the morning. Too soon, it seems, we know.

We will miss her in many many ways. Conversations about everything from Middle Eastern politics to the rhododendrons in her yard. Questions about what plant to go where. An insatiable (seemingly) desire for lovely cut flowers. More is more. A love of music. A love of beauty. Looking for the good. When the tulips come up in the Spring I shall always think of her.

I’m deeply sad to learn of Chambliss’ death. I’m shocked and shaken. I will remember Chambliss for her quick intellect, cultured mind and sense of aesthetics. I have fond memories of being her sous chef in the Greenfire kitchen where we talked about all manner of things and came to discover that we had similar mothers who shared an exact nature for managing a household. Chambliss could be counted on for profound political discussions as well as irreverent joking. I love to laugh with here as much as I liked sharing in deep conversations. I enjoyed numerous delicious meals served by Chambliss and Connie in their warm home. However, the wild dog that Chambliss rescued always gave me a start with his unsettling growl and hyperactive lunges. Chambliss never saw the dog as anything other than a creature she loved, relating on a soul level to the animal. I will remember Chambliss on a soul level as well. She was a soul sister. Rest in peace dear sister.

I am so sorry to hear of Chamliss’ early demise – she was a wonderful teacher, listener, one of those who Pay Attention to the wonderful world around her, and who reacted with love and friendship to those in her path.
Rest well, dear sister.

My heart goes out to you, Connie. I am so very sorry.
We sopranos will miss Chambliss’s voice greatly, as we have these last few months.
