Last weekend we went to Vermont to the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild show in the round barn at the Shelbourne Museum. This is the third time I’ve shown my rugs here, so we’ve started to figure out the route, which includes stopping at the Rainbow Cafe and Bakery in Marshfield, Vermont.
The first time we stopped here the proprietor greeted us as we walked in, “Hello, friends. Welcome to a culinary oasis in a gustatory wasteland.” And it is. I highly recommend stopping if you are on Rt. 2 in Vermont, just east of Montpelier. For lunch. Or or a sweet.
The Swiss walnut tort (I can’t remember its proper name), with ground walnuts, honey and kirsch was just the ticket, with a good cup of coffee. And the toffee we took away with us was pretty fine too.
