I’ve been working at pleaching the line of apples by the house raised bed garden for several years now. Winter is the time to see how the trees have grown together over the years.
The seven saplings I planted maybe eight years ago (though I can’t remember just when) are becoming one, just by twisting the branches together each spring. I prune the trees hard and in a flat plane, and use a wax grafting tape that disintegrates after a few months to tie the branches together. And that’s it.
A cool experiment that gives us a living wall of green in the summer and an interesting skeleton in the winter.
