This afternoon Anne and I will be heading to the Belfast Curling Club to participate in the club’s biennial women’s Pinetree Bonspiel. This event lasts all weekend, with the finalists being piped out onto the ice Sunday morning. In addition to the Belfast players, teams will be coming from Cape Cod, Boston and Nashua to enjoy the play and conviviality that surround such events.
We love this game of curling! It’s a game that is simple to learn, but takes a lifetime to master. After only seven years of playing we’ve got a long way to go. There are members of our club who have played for sixty years or more. They can look pretty unlikely, out there on the ice, but despite some physical limitations, they are usually deadly accurate with their shots and ruthless when it comes to strategy.
Okay, this may not be the most beautiful facility in the world, but it has hosted many, many good times on the ice and in the warm room over its more than 50 years of history.
